6 Summer Tips For Overly Oily Skin - Sole Toscana

Many people actually avoid going out in the sun during the summer.  This is especially true for people who have oily skin on a daily basis.  Summertime  often means increased acne breakouts for people with oily skin.  The humidity and heat don't help. Neither does the overwashing due to excess sweating. If you have a lot of makeup on your face, your pores can get clogged in the heat. Clogged pores mean a new acne breakout on your face.  Plus, your makeup smears after you apply it due to the summer heat!  This scenario doesn't sound like an exciting summer itinerary! But worry not, we have some helpful tips for you!

Avoid Washing Your Face Too Often

It can be tempting to clean oily skin as soon as it feels greasy, but twice per day is enough. Anything more than that makes your skin dry (for at least a bit) and stimulates it to produce even more oil!  Cleansing should only be done once in the morning and once before bed. Use a gentle cleanser that won't irritate your skin, like our Rosewater Wellspring Cleanser.

Use Anti-acne Products

During summer, use products that are formulated to fight acne. Do it even if your skin isn't acne-prone. Avoid products that contain Salicylic Acid or Benzoyl Peroxide- these can be harsh to the skin. Natural products such as tea tree oil are perfect for eliminating blemishes.

Use Less Makeup

Makeup is fantastic, but too much of it clogs pores, causing them to produce more sebum, thus leading to breakouts. Since you're likely to be at the pool or beach most of the summertime, let your skin go makeup-free. If you're not a fan of this, you can opt for a light BB cream or tinted moisturizer. Another option is to consider using a tinted sunscreen rather than a heavy foundation on your face to minimize the chance of clogged pores.  Any of these alternatives means less makeup on your face and a reduction in the chance of an acne breakout.

Sunscreen!

Did you know that apart from sun protection, mineral sunscreens are excellent at absorbing skin oil? Mineral sunscreens contain Zinc and Titanium Dioxide.

Use Lighter Moisturizers and Night Creams

Lay off the heavy moisturizers during summer.  Instead, use lighter moisturizers like our Rosehip & Calendula Triple Cream.

It protects against wrinkle-causing free radicals to ensure a youthful-looking complexion while creating a transformative smoothness and a silky texture.

Blot away!

Use oil blotters to remove oil from your face physically. They don't remove too much oil which causes the skin to dry out. They remove just enough for shine control.

We hope you are having an enjoyable, oil-free summer!
