In today's post, we're going to stop and smell the roses- literally.

INTRO TO ESSENCES

There is a mysticism to flower essences and their therapeutic effects. Hard evidence-based studies have not found an undeniable connection between flower essences and healing. Yet, they are still a favorite in therapy circles.

What are flower essences?

Flowers are infused in water in the presence of sunlight. Next, the liquid is stabilized in a solution of water and brandy.

To use the essences, place a few drops under your tongue or blend them into creams for topical use. Flower essences contain no scent and are different from essential oils.

The difference between flower essences and essential oils

Essential oils should not be ingested. However, flower essences can be ingested directly or by drinking a glass of water with a few drops of essence.

Essential oils treat the physical body while flower essences treat the emotional body.

Flower essences have no scent, while essential oils are highly aromatic. Only one flower is used to make an essence, whereas essential oils need a lot of plant material to make a drop of oil.

How essences work

The belief is that many plants have unique healing energies. Flower essences contain powers that address the mental and emotional aspects of wellness.  Modern flower essences were created by Edward Bach, a British physician, in the 1930s. According to Bach, the energy of flowers can balance your emotions. He believed that this can bring about mental, physical, and spiritual wellness.

There’s some evidence flower remedies may help anxiety and pain. They’re also believed to improve immunity, depression, and various psychological disorders, but the science is lacking.

LOOKING AT THE WHOLE SELF

Today, people use flower essences for the same purpose. You can buy essences in stores or get them from an essence therapist.  For you to understand how flower essences work, you need to recognize that human beings are more than a physical body. We also have a body of life energy, one that carries sensitivity and feelings, a spiritual essence or Self.  Flower essences are an energetic reflection of the life force of plants.

A few drops of wildflower essence has a profound effect on the health of our bodies and souls. According to science, this is impossible.

A dosage bottle of a flower essence contains approximately 1/62,000th of the original essence- not enough for chemical analysis to detect.

PLACEBOS?

Since these amounts can't be measured by conventional means, most people reason that flower essences are fake. The results can only be the result of self-suggestion (placebo effect).

Yet, thousands of people report significant changes with flower essences. They are effective in infants and animals who can't employ self-suggestion.

Currently, there are still debates on whether essences are healing or not.

What are flower essences used for?

Flower essences are recommended for combating emotional imbalances.

Studies show a direct relation between physical pain and emotional pain. Once you ease emotional distress, the physical pain subsides too.

Flowers and symbolism

We give flowers to others to express our deepest feelings, whether happy or sad.

When we view flowers in this way, there is less objection to their use. After all, they are pretty and lift the receiver's mood. Try including flower essences into your routine. They have no known side effects and are a safe form of therapy.
