There’s a reason we named this one Rosehip & Calendula Face Cream.
But those two botanicals are only the beginning.
Inside the jar is a layered blend of aloe vera, olive fruit extract, sodium hyaluronate, shea butter, and six botanical oils and extracts, all brought together in a rich cream designed to hydrate, soften, and nourish the skin.
This combination of botanicals provides the hydration and nourishment that all skin types need, without feeling greasy or heavy.
So, let's take a closer look at what is actually inside the jar.
Rosehip Fruit Extract

One of the namesakes of our Face Cream is Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Fruit Extract.
Rosehips are the small fruits that develop on rose plants after flowering. They contain a naturally complex mixture of plant compounds, including carotenoids, phenolic compounds, tocopherols, and vitamins.
Modern research continues to explore rosehip for cosmetic and dermatological applications, particularly because of its naturally occurring antioxidant compounds.
We love ingredients like this because they bridge two worlds: botanicals with a long history of traditional use that continue to be studied by modern researchers for their incredible effectiveness. Rosehip Fruit Extract has even been hailed as a great natural alternative for retinol.
But in our Face Cream, rosehip doesn't have to do all the work. It's surrounded by an entire family of nourishing ingredients.
Calendula Flower Extract
Then there’s the other half of the name: Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract.
Calendula, sometimes called marigold, has a particularly long history of topical use. Its flowers contain numerous naturally occurring compounds, including flavonoids, carotenoids, and triterpenes.
Research into calendula has focused heavily on its relationship with the skin, including its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity and its traditional use in supporting irritated or damaged skin.
For us, calendula was a natural choice for a face cream designed around comfort, nourishment, and caring for skin gently.
Aloe Vera

Aloe is at the heart of Sole Toscana skincare, and you'll find Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract right near the top of this ingredient list.
Aloe is especially useful in a rich moisturizer because hydration and nourishment aren't quite the same thing.
Oils and butters help soften the skin and reduce moisture loss. Aloe brings a lighter, water-based component to the formula.
That balance helps us create a cream that feels deeply nourishing, yet lightweight, because we aren't simply piling on heavier and heavier oils. The result is a non-comedogenic formulate that hydrates and nourishes without clogging pores.
Olive Fruit Extract

Another ingredient near the top of the formula is Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Extract.
For thousands of years, the fruit of the olive tree has been valued throughout the Mediterranean, both at the table and in traditional personal care.
From a skincare perspective, olives contain lipids and naturally occurring plant compounds that have made olive-derived ingredients particularly interesting in formulations designed to condition and nourish the skin.
Sodium Hyaluronate

Then we get to one of the ingredients doing a very different job: sodium hyaluronate.
Sodium hyaluronate is a form of hyaluronic acid, an ingredient valued in skincare for its ability to attract and retain water.
That makes it a natural complement to the botanical oils and shea butter in the Face Cream.
While those richer ingredients help soften and condition, sodium hyaluronate contributes to the hydrating side of the formula.
Research on topical hyaluronic acid supports its role in improving skin hydration, and clinical studies have also explored improvements in skin elasticity and the appearance of fine lines with certain topical formulations.
Think of it as one of the formula’s hydration specialists.
Botanical Oils + Shea Butter

This might be the part of the ingredient list that surprises you most.
Alongside rosehip, calendula, aloe, olive, and sodium hyaluronate is a beautiful collection of oils and butters:
Sweet Almond Oil • Jojoba Oil • Shea Butter • Pomegranate Seed Oil • Grapeseed Oil • Prickly Pear Seed Oil
Each contributes something slightly different to the overall feel of the cream.
Sweet Almond Oil is an emollient rich in fatty acids that helps soften and condition the skin.
Jojoba Oil is technically composed primarily of wax esters rather than triglycerides, giving it characteristics that distinguish it from many traditional plant oils.
Shea Butter brings a richer, more cushioning quality to the formula and is widely used as an emollient in moisturizers.
Pomegranate Seed Oil has a particularly distinctive fatty-acid composition and contributes additional naturally occurring plant compounds.
Grapeseed Oil is a relatively lightweight botanical oil that helps condition the skin.
And Prickly Pear Seed Oil, derived from Opuntia ficus-indica, adds another botanical closely associated with the Mediterranean landscape to nourish the skin.
Research into topical plant oils has explored several of these ingredients for their emollient properties and their potential roles in supporting the skin barrier. Their value in our face cream is about the carefully formulated blend that comes together to create amazing results, not just one individual hero extract or oil.
Why Combine Hydration + Oils + Butters?

This is where the formula starts to make sense as a whole.
You have aloe vera and sodium hyaluronate contributing hydration.
You have sweet almond, jojoba, pomegranate, grapeseed, and prickly pear seed oils, along with shea butter, helping soften, condition, and nourish.
You have rosehip and calendula extracts bringing their own naturally occurring botanical compounds for comfort and protection.
And you have olive fruit extract rounding out a formula rooted heavily in plant-based ingredients.
Rather than asking one trendy “hero ingredient” to do everything, the Face Cream combines ingredients with complementary roles.
That's particularly important when skin feels dry.
Sometimes what your skin wants isn't simply more hydration or simply more oil.
It needs both.
Why Mature Skin Often Appreciates a Richer Moisturizer
Our skin doesn't stay exactly the same throughout our lives, and we don't think it should have to.
With age, changes in the skin can contribute to increased dryness and differences in how well it retains moisture. That doesn't mean mature skin needs to be “fixed.”
It may simply appreciate a little more support.
That’s one reason we created our Face Cream to provide both water-attracting hydration and richer emollient nourishment rather than focusing exclusively on one or the other.
The goal isn't to make your skin look 20 again.
It's skin that feels comfortable, soft, nourished, and well cared for today.
The result is healthy, radiant skin at any age.
More Than Rosehip & Calendula

Rosehip and calendula may be the ingredients on the front of the jar, but this article illuminates the full botanical story behind a jar packed with high-quality ingredients.
Aloe. Olive. Sweet almond. Jojoba. Shea. Hyaluronic acid. Pomegranate. Grapeseed. Prickly pear. Rosehip. Calendula.
Each has its place.
And together, they create one of the richest formulas in the Sole Toscana routine: a Face Cream made for daily comfort and nourishment, without overwhelming the skin.
Because good skincare doesn't need to wage war against every line or sign of age.
Sometimes, it can simply take very good care of the skin you're in, and the cosmetic "looks" often follow.
