What's Good About Sulfate-free Shampoo?

Today, we're talking about sulfate-free shampoo. You've probably come across posts explaining that sulfates are harmful to humans, and the need for you to eliminate them from your everyday products. Making the switch from regular shampoos to sulfate-free can be quite daunting and confusing. Good news: we'll help you understand everything about sulfates and what the safe alternatives are!

What are sulfates?

Sulfates are used to create foam in cleaning agents. They're a common ingredient in shampoos, dish soap, laundry detergents, body washes, and even toothpaste! Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is the most common sulfate. Its other form is Sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES). Apart from foaming, sulfates also reduce the surface tension of water to loosen and remove oil.

Why do I need to avoid them?

Sulfates provide deep cleaning, but they're too harsh for the human body. The same sulfates used in floor and dish cleaners are the ones included in shampoos, imagine that!  Although they aren't carcinogenic, they may be harmful to your hair when used frequently. Sulfates strip natural oils from your scalp and hair, resulting in dryness. Using sulfate shampoo often leads to hair damage, brittle strands, and allergic reactions if you have sensitive skin.

So what can I do?

Choose sulfate-free shampoos!  Such shampoos have gentler cleansers, meaning your hair gets thoroughly clean without losing its natural oils.  If you've color-treated your hair, sulfate-free shampoos can keep the color in much longer. With sulfate-free shampoo, your hair gets the same clean feeling that you love, without the damage caused by harsh detergents.

The Sole Toscana Awakening Organic Shampoo leaves your hair feeling soft and lustrous, with a fun bounce that will make you smile. It nourishes and invigorates the scalp, leaves no flakes or build-up and has an all-natural, non-toxic formula.

Going sulfate-free isn't as hard as you thought!
