Theresa's 3 Tips for Being a Strong, Independent Woman

Meet, Theresa - an incredibly strong, inspiring woman at 64-years-old.

Theresa believes in giving back to the community. Earlier in her life, she wanted to be a role model to her children by "doing it and not just talking about it". So, she volunteered to be on the youth advisory board in her community to help girls achieve their goals and grow into strong, independent women.

Through Theresa's years of experience, she has learned 3 important tips for growing into a strong, independent woman:

Believe in yourself

1. Find A Mentor (or be that mentor!)

There is no better way to learn how to be a strong, independent woman than to be taught by one.

Finding and being good mentors can make all the difference in building communities of strong women for generations.

Not only can we do this on a personal level, but we can do this by supporting the right organizations. As Theresa mentions, we can seek out businesses and organizations that develop strong women.

2. Believe in Yourself

This can be a hard one, but believing in yourself is crucial. There are various ways to develop more belief in yourself. Here are a few ideas:

Tell yourself daily positive affirmations
Face failure with grace, always improving
Do things that are uncomfortable
Fake it until you make it
Keep a gratitude journal

3. Don't Over-explain

Studies show that women tend to explain themselves much more than men. Over-explaining can actually reduce self-confidence and credibility to others.

Learning to recognize when or to whom you over-explain is an important first step. Then you can come up with ways to reduce your explaining and portray confidence. In many situations, no explanation is needed...just simply the facts.
